SPAGHETTI DINNER FOR HANNAH’S HOUSE
The Knights of Columbus, Council 553, and the Marion High School Rite To Life invite you to join us on Saturday, February 13th, 2010 for a spaghetti dinner to benefit Hannah’s House in Mishawaka, IN. Dinner is from 4:30 to 7:30. Cost is $8:00 for Adults, Children 5-12 yrs $5.50, Children under 5-Free. Family Package—2 Adults and 2 Children for $25.00.

Come down on Saturday, February 13, 2010 Spaghetti Dinner to benefit Hannah’s House in Mishawaka
On Tuesday, February 23, at 8:15 a.m., the Knights of Columbus, Council 553 will be hosting our annual Catholic Schools Spelling Bee. Four kids from each of twelve schools will compete for honors, for a total of 48 participants. The winners advance downstate to the next level.
As in past years, WNDU Channel 16's Terry McFadden will emcee the event. Council 553 wishes to thank St. Joseph Catholic School (South Bend) Principal Susan Wiwi for her tireless efforts to bring about this event.

The Knights of Columbus is an organization whose members espouse the principles of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism. These are referred to as degrees. The Santa Maria Council #553 is located on the corner of Washington Street and Hill street in South Bend, Indiana. The Grand Knight for the 2009-2010 year is Robert Zielinski. The Grand Knight, or the members of our council, may be contacted by telephone at (574) 234-9800, or by e-mail at webmaster@kofc553.com. Meetings are held at the council hall located at 553 East Washington Street in South Bend on the second and fourth Monday of the month at 7:30 p.m. The Santa Maria Council #553 was established in 1901 and is the original Knights of Columbus council in the South Bend area. The first Grand Knight was John G. Ewing from 1901 to 1904. Our council has a proud tradition of service to our members, the church, and our community. Members of the Santa Maria Council are parishioners at many of the local parishes in the South Bend area, including St. Matthew Cathedral, St. Joseph, St. Patrick, St. Hedwig, St. Augustine, St. Casmir, St. Adalbert, Holy Cross, St. Stanislaus, Our Lady of Hungary, Little Flower, the Crypt, Sacred Heart Basilica, St. Anthony, and Christ the King. Our members are active participants in Council activities as well as activities in their parish communities. As you will see under Council Activities, the Santa Maria Council #553 is a very active council. In addition to all that we do, Council #553 is proud to serve as the host council for the Father Julius A. Nieuwland 4th Degree, Assembly #242. You are invited to consider joining the Knights of Columbus. Membership is open to practical Catholic men 18 years of age or older. |
